A little about Wendy Hughes - Chief Executive Officer, COUCH
Wendy Hughes is the CEO of COUCH (Cairns Organisation United for Cancer Health) where she has the privilege of working alongside a team of professionals committed to improving the lives of others.
COUCH was established in 2006 to advocate for improved cancer services in the region, which led to the opening of the Liz Plummer Centre in 2011. This was followed closely by construction of the COUCH Wellness Centre which opened in 2019, and the organisation now exists to nurture the health and wellbeing of people living with cancer and their families.
Sadly, in Far North Queensland, one in two people have a chance of receiving a cancer diagnosis during their lifetime, which means the services available through the Centre play a crucial role in supporting our local community.
Having recently lost federal funding, the organisation is at a critical stage of growth and in leading the team through this growth, Wendy is focussed on strategic advocacy, collaborative partnerships, fundraising, philanthropic giving programs and client-driven service development.
We are so blessed to be able to host our event at this great venue on Wednesday October 30th and have Wendy introduce us to the fabulous work of this essential and highly valued community-based organisation.
